Intel: windows 8-based PC tablet will appear this year

Intel reportedly is working with 10 vendors from in
and outside China to make Windows 8 based PC tablet. The tablet is later planned to be rolled at the end of 2012. 'You'll see a lot of Intel-based tablet at the end of this year,' said the leader of Intel China, Sean Maloney, speaking at the Intel Developer Forum in Beijing. Maloney also commented that Intel is expanding its chip business into the smartphone and tablet device.

Latest Atom processor, Z2460 (also known as the 'Medfield') made for smartphones and tablet device. The processor is claimed to deliver high performance with the ability of battery life is longer. Lenovo K800 is the first smartphone to use this Medfield chip. Meanwhile, according to vice preside Lenovo, K800 will go on sale in China in late May.

Handset manufacturers from China, ZTE also plans to launch a smartphone based on Intel in the second half of this year. Intel is also developing chips for mobile devices with the name of Clover Trail. Chip that will run 1.8 Ghz is designed for the tablet and is scheduled to arrive this year.

In addition, Intel is also developing two Atom chips for smartphones. Intel Atom Z2580 will offer twice the performance of Medfield chip. While Atom Z2000 will run at 1.0 GHz and is intended for low-end market.
